Bear Hughes signs with the Spokane Chiefs (WHL)

The Spokane Chiefs announced today that they have signed Spokane Braves rookie forward Bear Hughes to a WHL Standard Player Agreement. Hughes is not expected to immediately join the team, but could join the Chiefs at the conclusion of the Braves season as an affiliated player.

Hughes, 17, leads all rookies in scoring in the KIJHL and is fourth in the league in points. He has compiled 39 goals and 20 assists for 59 points. He has four hat tricks on the season and posted 4 goals and 2 assists for 6 points in a game back in September.

“Bear has made huge strides this year in his development,” said Chiefs general manager Scott Carter. “Kudos to (head coach) Mike Bay and the Spokane Braves. We are excited to officially welcome Bear to the Chiefs organization.”

“It’s always a good thing to add players with his kind of skill set,” said Chiefs general manager Scott Carter. “The fact that Bear is a local product is a bonus.”
