Alex Ewers of the Spokane Braves has committed to play for the University of Utah in the American Collegiate Hockey Association this fall.
Ewers, 18, spent one season playing for his hometown Braves and had nine points in 43 games.
“I am excited and thankful for this new opportunity that allows me to play competitive hockey and receive my education,” said Ewers. “I couldn’t do it without the Braves coaching staff and my parents.”
Describing the league as high paced and skilled, Ewers took advantage of that to improve his speed and puck work.
“The Braves pushed me every day to work harder and allowed me to grow as a hockey player and individual,” he said.
“We are very excited for this next chapter for Alex. He is a great teammate and player, and was always one of the hardest workers on the ice,” said Braves head coach and assistant general manager Jason Greenwell. “He gives his team everything everyday and we are thrilled for him and this opportunity. We look forward to seeing his strong success down in Utah.”
